THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Thor Restaurant Review:
Despite losing founding chef Kurt Gutenbrunner, the sleek hyper-trendy eatery on the ground floor of the Hotel on Rivington is still about much more than eye candy. Thor’s kitchen strikes a fine balance between hip and haute. Tangy goat cheese and zesty horseradish bind thin ruby layers in a gorgeous red beet terrine. Creamy scallops seared in bacon fat bring new meaning to “surf ‘n’ turf.” Light as air gnocchi are pleasantly grounded by a hearty ragù of prosciutto, mushrooms and peas. Though the menu has been largely overhauled, a few well-chosen Gutenbrunner favorites remain including playful hazelnut lollipops and butter-poached lobster. A cheeky cocktail list helps keep the place buzzing late into the night.
