Here's a longstanding area restaurant with a reliable menu of Spanish and Cuban cuisine. Tio Pepe's greets guests with dark wood, antique furniture and bronze statues---like a lovely Mediterranean-style home. Inside, the menu ranges from Prime Iowa and Nebraska corn-fed beef to fresh seafood and items from the in-house bakery. Guests may opt for the pompano with stuffing made from lobster, crab meat and shrimp. Each cut of prime rib is seasoned, trimmed and cooked to order. A favorite appetizer is salmon with extra-virgin olive oil, onions, green peppers and tomatoes, marinated for two to three days and served in a Spanish clay pot. An extensive dessert menu offers options from flan to Key lime pie. Be sure to try the Tarta de Chocolate: 14 layers of thin cookie crust and chocolate mousse.
