Tokyo Shiba Tofu-ya Ukai Restaurant Review:
Restaurants don’t get more romantic than this: a beautiful old-fashioned Japanese building amidst picturesque gardens, with Tokyo Tower in the background. Meanwhile, the food is mainly tofu in all its variations---and that’s a good thing, since the best Japanese restaurants concentrate on one particular kind of cooking. Dinner is a full-course meal---including the hard chewy variety of tofu that is often substituted for meat, the deep-fried version coated with miso paste, and incredibly fresh tofu that is so smooth and pure that it’s best eaten unadorned---accompanied by sashimi and other non-tofu delicacies.
