THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tom's Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Chef Tom Aikens’ restaurant is thoroughly attractive and offers all-day dining to everyone --- especially families. The décor fits the concept, with wooden tables that can seat up to eight people. It's a return to pure British cooking with a nod towards French classics: think brasserie with international influences delivered through Caesar salad with or without organic chicken, burgers, beer-battered fish ‘n’ chips and various pastas, and you've got the formula. Try one of the soups or the macaroni and cheese with truffle, or the rich, slow-roast pork belly with balsamic onions and lentils. The team sources many of their ingredients, particularly the meat, from artisan suppliers who are traditionally much more expensive, but the prices remain reasonable. The place is fun, and invariably buzzing; the service is unfussy and the wine list ditto. Also located at Somerset House, Strand, WC2, 020-7845 4646.
