THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Udipi Cafe Restaurant Review:
THIS ESTABLISHMENT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Strings of colored lights and the occasional object suggestive of Indian cultures do little to soften this cavernous and rather chilly space, but that hasn't kept Udipi Café from becoming a mainstay eatery. The menu notes the café is named for a coastal city in south India famous for its vegetarian cooking. If the food here is representative, we should all plan a trip to Udipi. Mango chutney is made in-house, as are the breads and the yogurt, the basis for the first-rate raita. Indian-style crêpes (dosai) filled with potato are a complimentary item at lunch, and pancakes (uthappam) are unusual and tasty. Curries include a delicious eggplant. The lunch buffet is a good deal on weekdays and weekends.
