Vedge Restaurant Review:

For an upscale feast sans meat, head to Vedge, the globally-inspired all-vegetable eatery from husband/wife team Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby. Attractively composed plates pack a flavor wallop and will make you rethink certain vegetables; the fancy radishes, served with shishito pepper, avocado and pickled tofu, are just one example. Dishes such as roasted golden beets in a Reuben-style sandwich on rye showcase the chef's commitment to melding color, texture and flavor, and there's a daily "dirt list" of seasonal menu items created from products harvested at local farms. Innovative cocktails mixed with house-made syrups and bitters as well as a fine boutique and craft wine and beer list round out the Vedge experience. For dessert, we suggest cheesecake with marigold ice cream, rose jelly and candied walnuts. Happy hour, offered at the bar from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday, offers one of the city's better values: $7 cocktails and wines by the glass, $4 beers and $5-$7 small plates, including a tofu banh mi taco.
