VILLAGE California Bistro & Wine Bar Restaurant Review:
In the heart of Santana Row, VILLAGE California Bistro & Wine Bar offers an eclectic menu emphasizing seasonal, local ingredients in a dining room with high ceilings and multiple cozy booths. Since lunch service starts at 10 a.m., the menu has “late breakfast” items such as several variations on eggs Benedict. Other lunch offerings include spicy Dungeness crab tostadas (served on papadums, not tortillas), an enormous tombo tuna melt, a remarkably light short rib stroganoff, and a spicy steak “banh mi” sandwich. Salads, many of them substantial enough for a main dish, are also popular. The dinner menu adds several seafood and meat options and a number of additional starters. Wine is a focus: the list is extensive, with domestic and imported choices, as well as almost three dozen wines by the glass, a good selection of half-bottles and several three-wine flights. On a warm day, the outdoor patio is a charming place to dine and people watch.
