THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Villaggio Gastro Italian Restaurant Review:
Grazie Hospitality Group owners Costanzo Astarita and Mario Maccarrone purchased a languishing faux Italian restaurant at this Clairmont Road address and upgraded the culinary quality. The company also owns Baraonda, a long-popular Italian place in Midtown. Villaggio offers somewhat Americanized dishes, veal Marsala and chicken Parmigiano, for instance, but it also serves grilled octopus and lasagna with besciamella sauce (made at Baraonda) to appeal to those seeking an authentic experience. Pasta and pizze dominate the menu, and the former, crafted in-house, comes al dente. For dessert, try the tiramisu. Espresso is very good. The wine list is happily heavy on Italian selections, especially among the reds, with many by the glass, but it could use a lighter red, such as a Bardolino, to go with some of the food. Mondays feature half-priced pastas and half-priced pizze rule on Tuesdays. On Thursdays, bottles of wine are half price.
