THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Waldorf Cafe Restaurant Review:
To wander into this café, is to walk into a time warp. The same peach marble bar, the same black-and-white photos of 1940s movie stars, the same 40s music playing softly---its been a good feeling for almost fifteen years. Bentwood chairs, casually dressed waitresses, leaded glass, may bring on a nostalgia fit, but the categorically listed wine list has just enough obscure offerings to make selecting wine an adventure. They were doing Med-Rim before it had that name. Greek salad, Caesar salad, grilled squid and tender/crisp little spring rolls, are old dependables. When did you last see duck liver pâté on the menu, or leg of lamb with mashed potatoes? Duck, marinated in soy, molasses and ginger, and crisp sweetbreads are two other options. Try these, or the osso buco for that matter, and dont worry about dessert. Sweets here are as changeable as the music, sometimes good, sometimes just so-so.
