The Whale Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Named after the casino term synonymous with someone who can afford to gamble millions, this Logan Square bar serves up eye candy in spades. Above the host stand is a striking Liberace-worthy chandelier; to the center are arched, enclosed booths reminiscent of slot machines; to the back is a mirrored bar with herringbone tile. Overall, it's a youthful, fun vibe.
Likes: We love the old glamour in every inch of the restaurant.
Dislikes: It can be pricey.
Food & Drinks: The Whale plays to all sides of the food and beverage experience. It's a place to start the day with brunch, day drink, bring a date, or cocktail with friends into the wee hours. Brunch bests cover a not-so-basic avocado toast (it comes with basil mint yogurt), chicken and waffles and a fluffy frittata Giordano (tomato, feta, arugula, Parmigiano and lemon olive oil). Dinner spans a variety of flavors: cauliflower steak, Cuban sandwiches, steak frites and juicy burgers. For dessert, savor the pineapple upside-down cake. Naturally, cocktails riff off the gambling theme. Gin-based Hush Money marries kiwi, pisco, green chartreuse and green apple. Mocktails and beer and shots, plus a hefty wine menu, solidify the decadence.
