THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The White Tiger Restaurant Review:
We have loved the Capitol Hill location so much that when The White Tiger set down roots in the burbs, we cheered. But the Virginia restaurant cant compete with its downtown cousin, at least, not yet. Whats missing here is what the other location has in spades: skilled service, exquisite tableware, elegant presentation and preparation, and breads youd drive across town for. We dined here with friends, eager for an Indian experience, starting off with the samosas (here vegetarian) and the papri chaat, enough for one but not enough to share with several. The menu elaborates on the Indian theme with enough offbeat dishes to awaken yearnings, if not taste buds, though the paneer karahi and the dal were sterling renditions. And what about the breads? They are outstanding, especially the Kashmiri naan, a tandoori puffed bread stuffed with nuts. The kulfi is refreshing; the shahi tukra (deep-fried bread with milk), rich and satisfying. Also located at 301 Massachusetts Ave. NE, Washington, DC, 202-546-5900.
