THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Wild Orchid Cafe Restaurant Review:
The Wild Orchid Café went uptown, in both senses of the word. Once lodged in a cheerful remodeled bungalow in residential Eastport, the popular dining spot moved into larger, sleeker quarters in the heart of the Downtown Annapolis Arts District. We miss the unpretentious charm of the old place, but the current setting, spacious and modern with fieldstone accents, is undeniably attractive. And the food --- chef-owner Jim Wilder’s sophisticated take on regional classics --- is as good as ever. While many contemporary restaurants put much of their inventive power into the appetizer list, Wild Orchid's patrons all seem to want the same thing: the silky butternut squash soup studded with big lumps of crab. Entrées venture further afield: signature dishes include the scallops napoleon, which layers pan-seared scallops with pecan-lemon sweet potato pancakes, sautéed leeks and mushrooms, with tangy lime sauce; and seared duck breast with cherry port wine sauce, garlic spinach, and pumpkin risotto.
