THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Woo Lae Oak Restaurant Review:
For years, this local branch of a leading Seoul restaurant was the standard for Korean food in LA and although there are more choices nowadays, Woo Lae Oak remains a classic, as well as an excellent introduction to this fascinating cuisine. Theres a wide assortment on the menu, from barbecue (beef, chicken, prawns and mushrooms) to traditional soups (try mandu-guk---dumplings in broth) and dishes like neng myon (cold noodles in beef broth---great during hot weather). The atmosphere is pleasant but not stuffy (handsome woodwork, granite tables, polished brass hoods over the tabletop gas grills) and super-clean. Note: dont confuse this Woo Lae Oak with the one on Beverly Hills restaurant row; although they have the same owner, the Beverly Hills location is more upscale, minimalist and expensive, and the food is less typically Korean.
