The Yellow Chilli Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: The Yellow Chilli is located in the heart of The District at Tustin Legacy, but it doesn’t go the route of shopping center establishment kitsch. Inside, you’ll find a sleek venue whose soft earth tones and warm lighting scheme evoke a contemporary aesthetic rather than the usual Indo-Gothic look. It’s the ideal backdrop for the restaurant’s modern take on Indian cuisine, as designed by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor.
Likes: Contemporary dining space.
Dislikes: Spice levels could be slightly higher.
Food & Drinks: Dishes on the constantly rotating menu do a fine job of infusing the expected flavors of Indian fare with inspiring touches that elevate them without being intrusive. Start with a mixed veggie platter, where you can enjoy delights like clay oven-cooked paneer tikka and fried banana patties. Familiar choices such as butter chicken and tandoori lamb chops are among the mains, but we recommend trying the unique lamb shank rogan josh or the shaam savera, cheese-filled spinach dumplings served with tomato gravy. Save room for the bread and milk pudding at meal’s end. The compact wine list offers a handful of esoteric labels with familiar options, and a bevy of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails are available at the nicely appointed bar.
