Sean Priester has brought his famous fried chicken, cornbread and gumbo to a small spot in Kaimuki, called Soul. After leaving his post as executive chef at Top of Waikiki, he operated a lunch wagon dubbed Pacific Soul which only increased demand that he find a bricks and mortar location. Expect a line, but all reports indicate that the food is worth the wait and the challenging parking situation---public transportation or a taxi is recommended if you go. Lunch & Dinner daily, Brunch Sun. Soul, 3040 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96826, 808-735-7685.

John Neff has been promoted to executive chef at Hawaii's only revolving restaurant, Top of Waikiki. An alumnus of notable restaurants in Las Vegas including Michael Mina's Nobhill and Anthony Amoroso's Fiamma Trattoria, he was executive sous chef at Chai's Island Bistro before joining Top of Waikiki in 2006. Rumors of the closing of the long-popular John Dominis have swirled for several years now. The confusion was understandable as there was a prior official statement that said April 30, 2010, was the date. However, employees were recently informed that the restaurant will remain open through November 2010. Opened in 1979, John Dominis is known for its seafood and spectacular oceanfront setting at Kewalo Basin. The area where the restaurant is located is slated for a new commercial-residential development and all existing structures are being removed to make way for this project. John Dominis, 43 Ahui St., Honolulu, HI 96813, 808-523-0955.
