CHICAGO RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Walton Street Kitchen + Bar is a new concept from Ballyhoo Hospitality. The first floor summons the look and feel of a home library, but with curated wines and cocktails. The second-floor restaurant from husband-and-wife partners Ryan and Anna O'Donnell features seasonal upscale American tastes from executive chef Jon Keeley. Walton Street Kitchen + Bar, 912 N. State St., Chicago, IL 60610, 773-570-3525.

The former Riverview Tavern space has morphed into Last Call Tavern Group's The Reveler. The sports bar opened on August 25 with a horseshoe bar, 96 taps, specialty drinks, smoothies, shakes, wood-fired creations, hand-tossed pizza and a weekend brunch. Self-serve taps and outdoor seating add to the communal appeal. The Reveler also offers a new home for Iowa Hawkeyes fans. The Reveler, 3403 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL 60618, 773-248-9523.

Brass Heart fills the void for fine dining in Uptown Brass Heart fills the void for fine dining in Uptown, thanks to the efforts of chef Matt Kerney (Longman & Eagle) and partners Margaret Eisen and Vincent Maiorano. Look for a standalone vegan menu (i.e. carrot leather) and meat dishes (such as a ham that gets its richness from aging, and an acorn diet fed to the pig). Cost is $165-$185 per person, wine tastings additional. Brass Heart, 4662 N. Broadway St., Chicago, IL 60640, no phone.

etta already has an impressive pedigree, what with chef Danny Grant (Maple & Ash) at its helm. The restaurant, whose name means "keeper of the hearth," riffs on the fire theme, with pizza, lamb and chicken as some of the many dishes luring foodsters to Bucktown. Salads, veggies and pastas also account for a big portion of the menu, with standouts such as hearth-fired Klug farm sweet corn, arugula and peach salad, and squid ink mafaldine complementing the full wine list and thoughtful cocktail program. Dinner nightly. etta, 1840 W. North Ave., Chicago, IL 60622, 312-757-4444.
