After closing for a few months due to a fire, avec has reopened. Some of the menu faves---like the chorizo-stuffed dates---have remained, but there's a host of new, fuss-free offerings, too. Avec, 615 W. Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60661, 312-377-2002.
Grill your own Japanese grub at transplant Gyu-Kaku, which has locations in New York, California and Hawaii. Gyu-Kaku, 210 E. Ohio St., Chicago, IL 60611, 312-266-8929.
Nick's Fishmarket Grill & Bar is back on the scene, only now in a Merchandise Mart space. The menu, which is more cost-conscious but still features lobster bisque, is served Monday through Friday. Bagel on Damen has opened a second location in Ravenswood, serving the same coveted sandwiches on New York Bagel & Bialy bagels, cult coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters and craft brews. Bagel on Damen, 4639 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL 60640, 773-878-8523.
Giuseppe Tentori, along with the Boka Group, will be opening GT Fish & Oyster in the former home of Tizi Melloul in late February. It'll feature a large bar and central "boomerang" table made from surfboard material. Follow its progress at http://gtfishandoyster.wordpress.com. GT Fish & Oyster , 531 N. Wells St., Chicago, IL 60654, no phone yet.
Nabuki just opened in West Suburban Hinsdale. And if the success of its predecessor, Il Poggiolo, is any indication, it's going to be a wild ride. Look for inventive maki and Asian fusion coming from the kitchen. Nabuki, 18 E. First St., Hinsdale, IL 60521, 630-654-8880.
Roti Mediterranean Grill---a crazy-fresh Chipotle-esque counter spot---opened another locale. That's good news for groupies, who are tired of around-the-block waits for their loaded chicken, tomato-cucumber and Israeli couscous wraps. Roti Mediterranean Grill, 33 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60602, 312-263-9000.
Matt Troost (Fianco) is behind farm-driven Three Aces, currently shaking up the Little Italy scene with Italian-bent, self-dubbed "gastropunk" plates, such as porchetta with cannellini beans and apple mostarda. Three Aces, 1321 W. Taylor St., Chicago, IL 60607, 312-243-1577.
Belgium is hot---really, really hot---these days, and soon-to-open Leopold in West Town aims to capitalize on the trend. Look for it---and a menu from Jeffrey Hedin (Spring, Green Zebra) that includes poutine merguez---sometime in November. Naturally, there will be craft brews from Belgium and beyond to go with. Leopold, 1450 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60402, no phone yet.

River North Restaurant for Summer 2011 Takashi Yagihashi has announced plans to open a more casual, affordable counterpart to Takashi in River North come summer 2011. Though things are still being worked out, expect something along the lines of a skewer-minded noodle-bar-meets-grill. Takashi, 1952 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL 60647, 773-772-6170.
New Venture from DMK Burger Bar Owners Riding on the success of their latest venture, DMK Burger Bar, David Morton and Michael Kornick have plans to open Fish Bar next door, though further specifics have yet to be announced. DMK Burger Bar, 2954 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago, IL 60657, 773-360-8686.

Rob and Allison Levitt have left Mado, with the goal of opening The Butcher & Lader, a BYOB in Noble Square. Not surprisingly, the emphasis will be on house-butchered and house-cured meat, available for purchase, as well as Allison's desserts. Meanwhile, Brandon Baltzley is now overseeing the kitchen at Mado. Look for an anything goes approach, such as a small plate of curried okra with white beans and charred cornbread and maple-accented lamb belly with apples. Mado, 1647 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60647, 312-342-2340.
Laurent Gras has left L20, the seafood-centric Lincoln Park stunner. Francis Brennan, who was on the restaurant's opening team, has returned, crafting a menu that's more seasonal while keeping the restaurant's seafood mindset intact. A tweaked version of the shabu course remains. L20, The Belden-Stratford, 2300 N. Lincoln Park W., Chicago, IL 60614, 773-868-0002.
