RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

San Diego's finalist on season three of Bravo's Top Chef, Brian Malarkey has opened his first restaurant, Searsucker, in downtown San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter. His New American menu boasts locally sourced, sustainable and housemade ingredients. Dishes include lemon and oregano rotisserie chicken, pork butt with grilled peaches and bacon butter, a rib-eye tomahawk with cognac and horseradish, local Baja scallops with foie gras and figs, Alaskan halibut with bacon and corn broth, and whole fish served "angry-style" with garlic, chilies and basil. Craft brews and artisanal cocktails make for a fun bar scene and enliven the food. Searsucker, 611 5th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101, 619-233-7327.

Replacing the Clubhouse Grill overlooking the golf course, Club M is the new nightclub, sports bar and eatery at The Grand Del Mar. All-day dining from chef Ernest Lopez includes global tapas like Baja-style fish tacos, bay scallop ceviche, beef sliders, crispy chicken with Oaxacan mole, duck confit flatbread, and decadent bacon truffle fries. Cover-free entertainment runs Thursday through Saturday, with DJs and the Tony Suraci Band, known for its fun rock 'n' roll renditions. Award-winning jazz vocalist Steve Tyrell will perform October 21-23. $75 per person. Club M, 5300 Grand Del Mar Ct., San Diego, CA 92130, 888-314-2030.
