Quinn and Karen Hatfield's casual neighborhood eatery The Sycamore Kitchen is now open on La Brea, serving bakery items and lunch daily. The airy, 2,000-square-foot café offers pastries ranging from salted caramel pecan rolls and sour cherry scones to a dark ale spice gingerbread. Also expect savory options like an open-face toast with house-made ricotta, stewed citrus and fennel, and a roasted chicken breast sandwich on country bread. Bakery & Lunch daily. Towne Food & Drink, a venture of restaurateur Armen Shirvanian (Pasadena's Mi Piace), is located in a 7,000-square-foot space in downtown's Watermarke Tower designed by Mark Zeff. The menu features contemporary American cuisine from a culinary team that includes New York chef Eric Hara (davidburke & donatella, The Oak Room at The Plaza) and Scott Conant protégé Ryan Morrison. The team at Innovative Dining Group (IDG), which operates Sushi Roku, BOA Steakhouse and Katana, has taken over the former Zucca space downtown for Soleto Trattoria & Pizza Bar, a lively trattoria and pizza bar. Soleto Trattoria & Pizza Bar, 801 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90017, 213-622-3255.
New Dining Specials at BierBeisl
For the month of July, anyone taller than chef Bernhard Mairinger, who stands at 6' 7", receives one free meal (entrée and dessert) at BierBeisl. The official measurement (without shoes) will be taken at the restaurant. The deal does not include beer or wine. BierBeisl has also introduced a "build-your-own" three-course lunch ($30) that includes a choice of soup or salad, pork or turkey schnitzel with side dish, plus an Austrian pastry. Breakfast at Maison Giraud
